A holistic approach to care

Walfinch CEO Amrit Dhaliwal said:

This is a huge tribute to all of our carers, who go the extra mile every day to offer not just physical care to our clients but social and emotional care to ensure their wellbeing.

We believe that day care expertise is based on attitude, training and technology. Walfinch has pioneered the idea of improving clients' lives by making care a Time To Thrive.

Through its Time to Thrive initiative, Walfinch runs free activity sessions like chair yoga, arts and crafts, and fitness classes, all tailored to clients’ needs. Cultural engagement is also a priority. In Harrow & Brent, for example, the team organises cultural days with activities such as Gujarati dance, while in East Barnet, carers of all faiths were given Eid gifts to mark the occasion.

Investing in people and technology

Walfinch places great emphasis on training, with carers completing a range of courses and having opportunities for further development. One franchisee, Greg Renk, recently supported carer Sian in achieving a Lead Practitioner in Adult Social Care qualification—equivalent to a first-year university degree—by funding her studies and giving her paid study time.

The company also focuses on retaining its carers, offering initiatives like a care leaders award and carer of the month. As a result, Walfinch’s retention rate is 57%, compared to an industry average of 35%, which helps ensure consistency of care for clients.

Technology plays a key role too. The Birdie system, which monitors health and wellbeing in real-time, allows carers to quickly respond to any concerns while reducing paperwork.

Celebrating success

Amrit added:

This is a huge achievement for our whole team, and we are especially proud to win in the Home Care Awards, as they are run in association with the Homecare Association. Congratulations to all the winners – continuing to raise the standard of home care benefits the whole industry, our clients, and society as a whole.
