Yvonne Williams, franchisor of cleaning franchise The Happy Angel Company gives us some insight into her franchising experience.

After working in the estate agency industry for 30 years, Yvonne took a break from sales and started working for a holiday letting company.

During this time, The Happy Angel Company idea was conceived:

“To do this job, I had to learn how to be a housekeeper, not only to train new recruits, but also to point out where improvements could be made.”

“A couple of years later, I moved to Norfolk and decided that the time was right for Happy Angel to begin.”

When she launched the company six years ago, she knew that one day it could use franchising for rapid expansion. And last year was when this plan was put into motion. When some of Yvonne’s clients from Norfolk relocated to other parts of the UK, they would ring her up because they weren’t able to find the same exceptional level of service her company had provided them.

Franchising will allow Happy Angel to provide cleaning for domestic and commercial clients across all of the UK and provide franchisees with a high level of income and security.

Yvonne and her partner were essentially the first Happy Angel franchise owners to have tried and tested all aspects of the business:

“We know what is do-able and what is not. We have different arms to the business which cover general housekeeping, commercial cleaning, garden service, hospital to home service, holiday let housekeeping and full management and end of tenancy and house moving cleans. Franchise owners can do all of these, just one, or pick and mix whichever they fancy doing, it is entirely up to them. I have carried out every aspect myself; if it didn’t work, it didn’t get included in the services offered.”

Yvonne tells us that she observed how successful franchising could be when her friends invested in a franchise after facing redundancy in the 1980s.

“I strongly believe in a franchising model as a means of providing a readymade business for people to invest in.”

She continued:

“Our biggest challenge has been finding people brave enough to join a relatively new franchise company; their natural inclination is to join a more established, tried-and-tested company with many more franchise owners.”

However, many entrepreneurs who take this approach find that the area they’re after is already occupied. The good things about relatively new franchise Happy Angel is that you can choose the area you want. There are several applicants at the deposit stage so areas will become more limited in the near future. Therefore, you should act now if this sounds like the perfect opportunity for you.
