The Zip Yard has been looking at the way young people are choosing to dress and tracking changes in recent trends
The Zip Yard has been offering its opinion on how fashion has changed in recent years in an article for the Irish Independent.
The clothing alterations franchise doesn’t just offer its customers a speedy service that can make a baggy jacket or snug pair of trousers fit properly within 48 hours. Its expert seamstresses can also up-cycle old garments, breathing new life into tired or dated items by reworking them into a completely new piece of clothing. So, its important that the Zip Yard’s head office keeps its eye on the ever-changing trends for women’s clothing to give its tailors plenty of ideas on how to reinvigorate unflattering items.
Caroline Wallace, MD of The Zip Yard, explained how fashion’s focus has shifted when targeting the younger generation, adding that greater emphasis is now placed on comfort and ease of wear. She says:
"Comfort is key. Workwear and evening wear essentially need to be as comfortable as a tracksuit. We've noticed a definite shift towards a wearability.”
She added that women’s fashion has also begun to reflect society’s move towards being less defined by traditional gender identities.
"In the past, we would have referred to that type of dressing as androgynous. Fabrics are more voluminous, shoulders a statement, be they sharp and futuristic or raglan and relaxed, and waistlines are worn higher and pleated. It's all about ease and relaxation."
The move towards more relaxed tailoring has been led by top designers gracing the catwalks of international fashion weeks, reflecting the younger generation’s desire to stay comfortable while still looking chic. And, with more than 20 locations across the UK and Republic of Ireland, if you’re inspired to give your tired old clothing an on-trend makeover, The Zip Yard will turn your unloved items into something amazing.
