Nationwide Cleaners sponsors schoolgirl’s Peruvian expedition

Nationwide Cleaners has leant some financial support to one lucky school girl’s trip of a lifetime to experience the real Peru.

Nationwide Cleaners sent one schoolgirl on an unforgettable journey to Peru, where she spent four weeks making a difference to community projects across the country.

Elise, from Sussex, was sponsored by the franchise to spend a month trekking across the South American country. She pitched in with community projects in rural villages to try and make a difference to the lives of the local people and helped with the construction of numerous school buildings, greenhouses and toilets. The Nationwide Cleaners sponsored trip also gave Elise the chance to spend time with local children, by teaching them some English and experiencing local culture by playing with them.

The tasks were often challenging, especially as Elise found herself working in villages at altitudes of over 4000m in warm, humid and even rainy weather. Even when she had a chance to trek across the spectacularly scenic country, there was no chance to experience luxury. Elise explains how the group embarked on a challenging 5 day trek to Machu Picchu that left them without even the most basic of comforts.

“We walked for roughly 7 hours a day, hiking up mountains and hills, and going down through cloud forests. We saw some fantastic views [but] we had little sleep and no showers for the duration of our trek.”

However, the schoolgirl added that being able to experience the fabled Machu Picchu made the difficult journey worth it. She also extended her thanks to the cleaning franchise for making the once-in-a-lifetime trip possible.

“I am so grateful for the support of Nationwide Cleaners in helping me to raise the funds for this trip. I feel so privileged to have been able to go and help on so many important projects and impact many local communities, and to have experienced such an amazing culture during my time away.”
