Keep People Healthy With These Top 5 Supplement Companies in the UK
Alice Tuffery, writer
Every day, people across the UK buy vitamin and mineral tablets from supplement companies. Many people choose to do this in order to maintain and improve their overall health and prevent health problems.
Supplements can be used for a wide range of reasons:
- To care for your eyes, heart, skin or bowels
- To strengthen your bones (to prevent arthritis, for example)
- To strengthen hair and nails
- To boost your mental health
- To boost immunity and prevent colds
- To encourage weight loss
- To provide energy
- To improve sleep
- To maintain health during pregnancy and the menopause
Why do people take supplements?
There are plenty of reasons why supplements are thought to be beneficial, but when and why do people start taking them? Well, according to accounting firm Grant Thornton, young adults are starting to try supplements rather than going straight to the doctors, and using them to meet their fitness-related goals.
On the other hand, elderly adults also tend to start taking supplements as a preventative method to avoid becoming unwell and to avoid the development of chronic medical conditions. Parents might also buy supplements for their children to ensure they are getting enough vitamins while they grow. And women may be prompted to take supplements if they fall pregnant.
According to the Food Standards Agency, just 18 percent of people have never taken supplements, while 48 percent of people do on a regular basis. The most popular reason given for taking extra vitamins and minerals was “To maintain overall health” (57 percent), followed by “To improve overall health” (46 percent). The improvement of the immune system and energy levels were also popular objectives for supplement buyers.
So, as you can see, there is a huge variety of uses for supplements, and many people will buy them without seeing any form of advertising promoting their use. And, as UK consumers become more focussed on maintaining healthy lifestyles, the supplements market should continue to be lucrative in the future.
