Are you comfortable following rules?

Franchising isn’t like employment. You won’t have a manager hovering over your every move, and you’ll have plenty of autonomy over your daily routine. However, in order to achieve success with the franchise model, you will need to be comfortable following a number of rules. Think about why you want to become a franchisee - do any of the following sentences echo your thoughts?

  • I’m happy to follow a franchisor’s rules as I don’t know much about running a business.

  • I want to follow a business concept that has proven financial potential. If following rules is the way to success, count me in.

  • I know how to run a business but not in my chosen sector, so guidance and rules are fine by me.

Whether it’s a lack of experience, sector knowledge or simply the desire to recreate your franchisor’s financial success that makes you happy sticking to the rules, you are likely to be well suited to franchising. Even if you don’t like the sound of following rules, many franchise models are actually less restrictive than you think. Generally, there will always be some flexibility in how you organise your day and you may not have any targets to hit.
