Members of Sweaty Mama fitness classes took part in a 5K mud run to raise money for the fight against cancer.

Fifteen energetic mums from Flintshire joined forces to run the Alyn Waters Country Park Pretty Muddy 5K in order to raise money for Cancer Research UK. The mums were all members of the local Sweaty Mama, one of the fastest growing fitness franchises in the UK.

Sweaty Mama is specifically aimed at mums and their babies, with classes taking place in the daytime and exercises often involving using babies as wiggling, living dumbbells. The classes are designed to be a fun and interactive activity for new mums, and this lead to a group deciding to get muddy for charity.

The Pretty Muddy event requires participants to tackle a range of obstacles, from climbing over giant inflatables to crawling under nets and squelching through mud pits. The group of fifteen mums raised over £3,000 for Cancer Research UK, with M&S bank adding a further £1,000 to the total through its parent company HSBC.

“I’m really proud to have been able to run with these amazing strong group of mamas,” team leader and ‘Sweaty Mama’ instructor Lowri Earith, from Hawarden, said.

“We all have our own reasons for doing it but having our children seeing us taking part in something like this really makes it feel extra special.”

The money raised will contribute to Cancer Research UK’s ground-breaking work trying to find innovative ways to diagnose, prevent and treat cancer, which affects thousands of people every year.

The group all attended the Sweaty Mama classes with their young children in order to get fit after their pregnancies. The classes gave them a fun activity to take part in that would not only get them in shape but would also keep their little ones entertained too.
